Month eight: Late night

"Was the romance with one's own child the single best gift of our lives? Profoundly elemental and excruciatingly fleeting at the same time" (Naomi Shihab Nye)

I was reading an article about a mother who lost her five year old child after what seemed to be a routine strep throat case. She talked about how her arms still physically ache with the longing to hold her baby. I don't know how my body would ever recover from a separation from Madeus.

I know that for me, this is the greatest thing I will ever do. Knowing that, at times, makes me incredibly sad. I feel burdened by a responsibility to protect that which I cannot and a longing for the adult Madeus to remember these early days of our undivided love.
